What is a computer?
A computer is a machine that follows instructions to do work: typing a letter, playing a video, storing photos. A desktop, a laptop, even the smartphone in your pocket — zote ni computers.
The brain: CPU
Inside is a chip called the CPU (processor). It is the ubongo — the brain — that does the thinking and follows your instructions, step by step, very fast.
Memory and storage
RAM is the short-term memory — like your hand holding what you use right now. Storage (the disk) is the long-term keeper, like a cupboard that holds your files even after you switch off.
Input and output
You put things IN with a keyboard, mouse or touch screen (input). The computer shows results OUT on the screen or speaker (output). Input, process, output — ingiza, fanya kazi, toa.
Hardware vs software
Hardware is the parts you can touch (screen, keyboard). Software is the programs inside that you cannot touch (a browser, a game, the calculator). Hardware ni kushika, software ni programu.
